Makiea Shields is a Care Coordinator at Unity Recovery and is also a Certified Recovery Specialist. Before choosing a career in recovery, Makiea worked in the medical field as a CNA, HHA and a Medical Assistant.
Originally from Savannah Georgia, Makiea currently resides in Southern Jersey with her cat and partner in crime, Kee-Kee. Makiea’s Alma mater is Rowan University, and she is currently a student at West Chester University of Philadelphia.
In addition to expanding upon her education and furthering her career in the field of social work and humanities, Makiea is a mother of 5 beautiful girls and 9 grandchildren. Makiea is very family oriented and when not hosting family, Makiea likes to sew, read, listen to music, and refurbish old items.
Makiea’s personal mission is to attempt to change and challenge policies and laws that oppress communities.
